(ENGLISH) A muscular, silly and fairly entertaining buddy movie For me, this is one of those action films that will not change anyone's life, but at least knows quite well what it is. It does not try to reinvent anything: it puts Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista together, turns them into estranged half-brothers, gives them a fairly standard crime plot and lets everything move forward through punches, chases, jokes, fights and a lot of muscle. It is pure popcorn cinema, with all its flaws, but also with a welcome energy. The foundation is very classic: two huge men, different in character, forced to work together to investigate their father's death. One works more as chaos, impulsiveness and unleashed charisma; the other as a drier force, discipline and life-weariness. That opposition has nothing new about it, but it works because Momoa and Bautista have chemistry. You can tell the film exists mainly to put those two bodies and those two presences together, and there it delivers. Momoa is in his most roguish register: smile, hair, tattoos, swagger, jokes and that feeling that he is having fun even when the film is nonsense. Bautista, meanwhile, again shows he has more resources than many expected from him. He is not just a big man hitting people; he knows how to play seriousness, irritation, a certain sadness and a touch of dry comedy that suits him quite well. Together they elevate a story that, on paper, would be rather thin. The problem is exactly that: the plot matters only enough. The investigation, the villains, the betrayals, the clues and the criminal mystery are there to move the characters from one action scene to the next, not because the script is especially inspired. It can be followed without effort, but it does not surprise either. Almost everything smells of something seen a thousand times: brothers who do not get along, a dead father, unfinished business, enemies appearing on cue and a secret that does not change the experience much. The film works better when it accepts that it is a big, noisy and not very refined action comedy. The fights have charm, the chases are watchable and there are moments when the contrast between the leads works. It does not always make you laugh, but it does maintain a light tone that prevents the whole thing from becoming heavy. When it gets more sentimental or tries to dig into family trauma, the seams show quite a bit. The Hawaiian setting helps too. It gives the film color, movement and a slightly more pleasant visual identity than the usual generic streaming action. I would not say the film uses the environment brilliantly, but it uses it enough not to feel as if it could have been shot anywhere. There are beaches, roads, bars, punches under the sun and a sense of tourist adventure with violence that fits the whole thing. The action is uneven. Some scenes have good momentum and convey that physical fun of watching two cinematic animals smash everything. Others are more confusing, longer than necessary or too dependent on familiar formulas. There is not one sequence I would place on an altar, but there are enough moments that do the job for an afternoon on the sofa. It is more a film of impulse than of precision. Its debt to the buddy movies of the eighties and nineties is also very obvious: impossible pairings, jokes in the middle of danger, testosterone, destruction and a fraternal relationship rebuilt through blows. The problem is that those films sometimes had more personality, more bite or a better sense of rhythm. Here the nostalgia is clear, but the result does not always have the spark needed to become memorable. The best thing is that it does not take itself too seriously. That saves it quite a bit. When a film like this tries to fake depth, it usually sinks; here, although it includes family drama, it almost always returns quickly to what it does best: Momoa and Bautista clashing, arguing, running and breaking things. That simple pact with the viewer makes it easy to go along with it without asking for more than it can give. But it is also worth not getting carried away with enthusiasm. It is fun, yes, but also very conventional. It does not take risks, does not surprise and is easy to forget. Without the two of them, it would probably remain just another action film from the absolute middle of the pack. The difference lies in the charisma of its leads, not in especially inventive direction or a powerful story. In the end, for me it remains a decent, likeable and very limited piece of entertainment. It has action, pace, chemistry between the two leads and enough cheekiness not to be boring. But it also has a predictable script, fairly manufactured emotion and that feeling of a product designed to spend two hours without thinking too much. It is not a great film, nor does it need to be; it is a muscular, silly, noisy and acceptably fun buddy movie.
